2021 is here! …we at Career TEAM are optimistic in our nation and its people. As an industry, we need to share best practices, close the nation’s opportunity divide and educate and empower all individuals and families to reach their full potential. As a mission driven company, we are 100% committed to creating a socially conscious brand that delivers measurable outcomes for job seekers and those who fund, educate or train them. 2020 was a humbling year as myself and other key members of Career TEAM contracted COVID-19 and experienced first hand the fear and debilitating impact of this virus. We all received a wake up call to be healthier, learn remote access, take nothing for granted and treat each other with dignity and respect. We managed those fears, launched our online intercompany plan and focused on the best ways to contribute to individuals and families.

  • Created the new online Career TEAM University and now offers (50) complimentary webinars and workshops for job seekers and career advisors.
  • Refined our award winning Career EDGE software, now helping 400,000+ users in 80+ educational institutions, government agencies and nonprofits navigate their way through new and uncertain labor markets.
  • The Federal government also honored our company by awarding us over $5M+ in Government CARE ACT funds to distribute to job seekers in need of additional coaching or skill gain.

As you know, I believe in transparency, and as your partner am proud to share our key 2021 company objectives. Our theme remains to accelerate the human condition, one person at a time…

1. Become the Number One Rated Workforce Brand for Outcomes & Customer Experience

The pandemic has radically changed the job market, how candidates compete and what employers seek. We are continuously investing in new content and tools to deliver gainful employment. We are 100% committed to creating a connection with our customers, building an EDGE user community and providing documented outcomes. To accomplish this, we want the very best account managers, content authors, instructional designers and programmers. As CEO, I personally spend 33% of my time scouting and recruiting the very best talent in the nation. We want you to always see us as a partner, not a vendor. We aspire to be your adjunct staff, a team of experts to help you navigate through current and future changes. We are also committed to investing heavily in our industry and building awareness of our collective workforce system and education preparation.

2. Launch More “Essential” Software Tools for the New Labor Market

We all need solutions that address pandemic and post pandemic norms. Our team is in the “EDGE Career Lab” investing in new content, tools and assessments that assist job seekers adjust to the emerging hiring processes. We spend considerable time on HR committees and with hiring authorities to understand how their processes will change; and then we create products to coach your candidates. Social media, on-line interviews, critical thinking skills and value creation are in our daily thoughts. We aspire for EDGE to be a cost effective foundational component of EVERY career center in America; to enhance and complement your existing methods. EDGE is a mandated program item in every Career TEAM Direct Service project. We are excited about our new 2021 solutions and can’t wait to share them with you!

3. Offer Cost Effective Solutions That Are Sensitive to Your Budget Restrictions

Blending high touch with hi-tech is a new reality for leaders. Software and technology investments are simply essential to success. Many of our clients were previously confused by integration and skeptical of costly investments. And with good reason! As a result, they often avoided adding software and tried to maintain the status quo. We observe Boards pressuring leaders to be more innovative. We understand that Government & Education budgets are limited and we all need to do more with less. Our goal is to offer cost efficient technologies that fall within your budgetary guidelines; and document proof of concept. In 2021, we now provide services in 45/50 states and are proud of our client retention record, as we have not lost an EDGE software partner in the past 5 years.

Thanks for your confidence and trust in our mission. We foresee a prosperous 2021 for our partnership. We have all been humbled but will emerge stronger and more dedicated to protecting and guiding those who we serve. Work and contribution to a common goal is an essential component for purpose and peace of mind. You have my word that we will continue to invest our time and energies to create smart, cost effective and compassionate resources to support your efforts in the new and ever changing labor market. My cell (203-605-9100) is always on should you wish to share ideas.

To An Amazing 2021,

Chris Kuselias, CEO

Career TEAM’s Values in Action – We are a team with family values.
Creating and Sustaining Person-to-Person Connections, Virtually

With the pivot to virtual, remote operations, most employees work with colleagues and customers via phone or email, and face-to-face interactions are via a Zoom box. Keeping the organizational culture thriving is an ongoing, worthwhile task in this new work environment.  Culture is the glue the binds, the power that transforms, and the engine to innovate.  Culture draws staff in and allows them to understand that they matter and the why to their work.  In fact, an employee who feels engaged and inspired is 125 percent more productive than the satisfied staffer (Bain & Company’s Time. Talent. Energy).

Career TEAM’s Pierce County office keeps those connections alive by finding ways to connect person-to-person, even virtually.  We let our hair down, have some fun, and remind each other that we are still here for each other even though we are not in the same room. These activities are our way of putting our value of “we are a team with family values” into action. Here are three examples that keep our connections strong:

  1. Friday dance parties via Zoom: 4:50 pm on Friday, the song is ready, staff with family, friends, and fur babies log-in. The song is played, and we dance, laugh, and then wish everyone well. It’s a wonderful way to end the work week and start the weekend.  It refreshes the mind and the heart.
  2. Celebrate important days such as birthdays with a zoom sing along. If you haven’t tried to sing as a group on zoom, it’s not easy. We have a new appreciation for the musical artists who do.  Remembering birthdays reminds staff that they are valued and appreciated, and we SEE them.  It’s easy for some team members to fade into the background in the virtual world, make sure you see all staff.
  3. Encourage breaktimes with virtual coffee breaks, use gchat function, or don’t end a zoom meeting to let people gather afterwards to talk. In the office, we all had those hallway chats and watercooler moments that don’t happen without effort in the virtual, remote world.  Creating opportunities for staff to learn about each other, such as favorite teams, foods, and hobbies, helps energize connections and support building professional rapport, which can come in handy later when staff needs to get a task done together.

Creating and nurturing connections with and amongst your staff is not time wasted – it is time well spent.  While leaders hold the responsibility for setting the stage for organizational culture, each staff can do their part to put culture into action. If you are a leader, how do you help your team connect?  If you are staff, what can you do to nurture connections?

According to Kentucky Cabinet for Education and Workforce Development Deputy Secretary Josh Benton, “We are excited about expanding the virtual career services statewide through Career EDGE. South Central Workforce Development Board has had great success with these programs and we are looking forward to making it available to all Kentuckians.”

Remote access learning including online candidate assessment and interviews and overall career management via smart device is the new reality. We are honored to be a partner and deliver enhanced outcomes for the state.”

Along with the introduction of Career EDGE in each of the state’s 10 workforce regions, is an outreach effort primarily led on the social media platforms, Facebook, Instragram, and Twitter @kycareeredge.  The social media presence of Kentucky Career EDGE will enhance the service delivery of Career EDGE content, provide additional resources to career seekers, and allow for a forum to share best practices in utilizing virtual tools for the job search.

At this year’s Leader’s Summit, the first ever prestigious award was given. This award was named after one of Career TEAM’s most impactful leaders, Mr James L Johnson of Wilmington, DE. Throughout his time at Career TEAM Mr J has lead and inspired the next generation of workforce development professionals by showcasing his best quality: Integrity

Mr J has taken many Career TEAM employees under his wing to show them the ropes and leads with his famous motto of “Just do the gig.” Mr J was part of one of Career TEAM’s outreach programs years ago and traveled to Haiti to make sure a children’s orphanage was receiving the donated funds from Career TEAM. From these acts of kindness, to his many relationships with politicians and highly influential people, to always being the best dressed man in the room, Mr J will always be an example of what it means to be a Career TEAMer.

Career Team’s East Texas had record breaking attendance at their February 2020 job fair with over 700 job seekers and over 60 employers filling the Tyler Rose Garden!  East Texas employers were extremely pleased with both the quality and quantity of candidates.  There was a continuous and steady of flow of eager job seekers throughout the event.

We would like to offer a Congratulations to Korbin and Selina two of our jobseekers who received permanent job offers at UT Health following their pathway to successful healthcare careers!

Overall, the event was extremely successful for our employers and job seekers alike and as usual, our Business Services Team made it look easy.  The teamwork demonstrated by not only the Workforce Solutions frontline team, but by our community and funding source partners were second to none and truly demonstrates East Texas couldn’t have a finer group of professionals looking after their interests.

Every year Career TEAM Leaders gather together to learn, share best practices and celebrate. This year, Career TEAM took over Miami Florida, the home of one of their newest projects! Each leader presented on themselves and their project. Sharing with other leaders from around the country how their programs work, what challenges they face and what new ideas they are utilizing to help their customers, partners, and staff. This Leadership Summit also included team building exercises and games and also a lot of fun in beautiful Miami.
Where will CTL go next year and who will be added to the TEAM?
